What makes literature immortal?

Most of us are of the paradigm approach that, use of complex vocabulary makes a piece of literature stand out! But, is that even true? If you will interrogate yourself you will end up realizing that, use of intricate words beautifies writing but, the plot always remains immortal in our memories! Use of vocabulary is surely very important as it uplifts your work. A good author is always the one who picturizes a situation through his words. He/She makes us feel every emotion of their character, as if we ourselves were the protagonists! 'Choice of words' is another thing that distinguishes a seasoned writer. Yet, I would say that, the plot is equally important. Good vocabulary is only a cherry on the cake!
