What I like about Her
When I was in class five, I was introduced to a book called 'The Old Man and His God' written by Sudha Murty. As I turned to the last page of the book I was elated with all the short stories the author had written and was very keen to read more of her work. Today, my bookshelf is embellished with almost all her books!
The author of 'The Old Man and His God', Sudha Murty, writes short stories (maximum of her books are short stories) which are barely ten to twelve pages each. They are easy and good reads, especially for the ones who wish to inculcate the habit of reading. What I like most about her writing is that, it is very real. She writes about her personal experiences which make her stories more connecting and heartouching! Her writing has simplicity and yet, you are taken into Murty's world! You can literally imagine words when you read her book! Her stories can be read by children, adolescents and even elder people. Murty's writings has magic as it can connect with people of all ages!
Sudha Murty is as modest as her books. She would always be in a saree with a flower embedded in her hair. That's all, no expensive sarees and no makeup! Once Murty visited Kashi. It is said, that when one visits Kashi he/she has to give up on their most beloved thing and that's when Murty gave up shopping! From that day she only wears gifted sarees. Imagine the person who gave birth to Infosys with her 'funds' wears gifted sarees! That's simplicity....the best quality one can inherit! Though Murty earns crores daily yet, she maintains a decent lifestyle!
One must wonder what Sudha Murty does with all her money! Murty is a philanthropist apart from being a teacher, author and the chairperson of Infosys Foundation. She has constructed hospitals, libraries, washrooms, schools and has donated a lot. Even during the last covid wave Infosys had made an effort to set up beds for the covid patients. Despite all her contributions to society she isn't boastful about it! She is in all sense is an altruist!
I have learnt a lot from her stories. Her stories have moral values; values, which we are forgetting eventually. 'Three Thousand Stitches', 'How I taught my Grandmother to Read', 'The Day I stopped drinking Milk' are some of her books written on personal experiences! Each of her book will for sure give you a life lesson! She has an optimistic look towards life which I think all of us currently need (pandemic)! A cup of tea or coffee and Sudha Murty's book....bliss! I can already imagine myself!
I love Sudha Murty's books too. They're really moving. Her experiences and her decisions based on her experiences are no less than life lessons.
ReplyDeleteI have massive respect for her. She is a gem of a person. It is one thing for a wealthy person to say that he is down to earth and another thing to actually prove it.
The blog is smooth and will surely interest the reader to pick up a book by Murty. ☺️
It's always been fun to read Sudha Murty's books....cause they are relatable in every way.
ReplyDeleteThe best thing about her books is even though the books are realistic they aren't imposing in any way. And you can see growth through out the chapters.
