Alternative for Meditation

I began writing blogs in the month of April. Meditation was the first topic that I had touched upon. I had started meditating then quite regularly and couldn't curtail myself from expressing its wonders!

I am quite grateful that many of my friends and family members read the blog and commented honestly that meditation had a soporific effect on them! I can't deny the fact that meditation may make you sedative. To be brutally honest even I have dozed off quiet a number of times while meditating. Well, this blog is all about an alternative for the tranquilizing meditation.

I was restless as a kid. Constantly fidgety and distracted. Ergo, learning word meanings, or memorizing mathematical equations and tables were some of the toughest tasks. I needed something to instigate my concentration effectively and so my parents came up with this wonderful idea of performing omkars before studying. No doubt, omkars had a surprising effect on me. Omkars for hardly 5-7 minutes and learning work was completed within no time!

Omkars have actually emerged from yoga. You need to fold your legs placing both your palms on the respective knees. Your palms must face the top; you then need to touch your index finger with your thumb, letting the other three fall in place as it is. One then has to close his/her eyes and breath in to the fullest of the capacity and then exhale eventually and slowly letting out the sound 'aum' and to end on the note 'mmm'. While performing this exercise one has to concentrate on the breathing and the sound of the syllables that are let out.

Omkars no doubt increases concentration. They also give us an opportunity to deep breath thus, enabling the blood to flow to all parts of our body in a much superior way than usual! Practicing omkars for 5-7 minutes daily can give you wonderful results. If you are a student you will observe your productivity increase after this wonderful exercise. Omkars can be performed by everyone and anyone. I have seen my grandfather perform it at the age of 75! Omkars make you feel peaceful. Once you have performed it you may experience that all your energy is clubbed and is ready to be utilized right away!

I feel omkar and meditation is quite similar to each other. After performing either of the both exercises you procure increased concentration and calmness by focusing on your breathing. The only difference that I can make out is, in omkar you have rarity of falling asleep whereas in meditation you have a grantee (unless you have mastered the art).

  1. Very well written. Finally, I can see that you've written the introduction with a perfect length and haven't dragged it at all. This post seems more organized with everything in place and written in the appropriate length and yes, the benefit of omkar can't be underestimated. I myself have suggested it to so many. People must read this blog for sure as they'll get the answer to 'Bohot neend aati hai' but still want to meditate. 😃 Keep it up.. Both the blog and meditation 🧘‍♂️😊
